Record And Upload Videos
Screen recording software will allow you to record what's going on on your desktop like a video. We strongly recommend using Camtasia Studio for windows (or mac now) or ScreenFlow for a Mac. Both options have a free demo so you can try before you buy.
SharkScopers will automatically compress and convert your video to our standards, but, for best results, you'll still need to do a small amount of configuring when you export your video. By default, most screen recording software will either export your video to either an extremely large file-size or a low quality version. For best results, a 30 minute video should be between 50mb's and 200mb's depending on the dimensions before uploading to SharkScopers. We will accept video upload file sizes of up to 500mb's
- Export settings for Camtasia Studio:
When you're done recording and editing your video, first make sure you save the project file, then click 'produce video as' to export your video. Choose 'Custom production settings' from the drop-down menu and then click next to configure the settings. If available, choose MP4/SWF, otherwise go with WMV. For MP4/SWF select the No Controls template, click flash options, and select MP4 as the format. The Frame-rate should be 10 and the bitrate should be between 400 and 600 (or higher depending on the complexity of the video). A larger bitrate will improve the quality, but it will also increase the file-size. Make sure that the audio is being encoded as well, click apply, ok, and then next. You can preview the settings or click finish to export the video.
If you export using WMV, again choose Custom production settings and then select the WMV radio button and click next. Use the Camtasia Studio Screen Video and Audio High profile. Make sure the video size is to your liking, then preview or export the video.
We will accept almost any video format, including .mp4, .mov, .avi, .wmv, and more. For best results, the file-size shouldn't be any larger then 250mb's and the final video should look as close to original quality as possible. If your software allows, set a maximum frame rate of 10fps.
Do not submit a swf/flash file. .swf isn't an actual video format, so we can't use these.
Choosing a Mic
You'll need to have a .icrophone to record your audio in your videos. Sound quality is very important so you should invest in an external usb mic rather then using the one built into your computer. The quality difference will make your videos a lot more watchable.
The two options are to get either a headset or a desktop top mic. Both can be very affordable, with good ones ranging from $20-$40. No matter which option you choose, be sure to speak loudly and clearly in a quiet atmosphere. Avoid having the mic placed directly in front of your mouth so breathing and popping noises don't stand out in your video.
