Was playing a SNG yesterday and was beyond card dead. K2s mid position would be one of my best hands.
Anyway just thought I'd pick on a few tight big blinds and make a few late position steals just to keep my head above water.
Obviously not. Lost of action going on around me and I couldn't get a look in.
Then a solid player on the button (blinds around 50 / 100 I was sat on around 1350 or so and he had about 3K) raised to 300 and I re-raised to 750 (I had junk but I thought a decent player would be observant and notice that I'd played practically no hands and give me some respect) but then he re-raised enough to put me all in. I folded.
So was left with 600. A few orbits went round and I managed to win a few blinds by shoving with suited broadway cards and mid pairs. But was still hovering around 600-800 and kepy getting my blinds raised with nothing to defend with.
Then eventually shoved again on the button with A10 ran into AJ wich held and I was out.
Is there anything you can do in games like this? Or just take it on the chin? It happened a few times yesterday and the times I did manage to fight back and survive I was just bubbling and also got knocked out with QQ by JJ just to rub it in.
I guess my question is is there another way to accumulate chips when being this card dead? i.e. getting creative by trying to out play someone even with no cards? Even though if I get looked up I'm out without a suck out... Or re stealing a raise all in with nothing so they don't have fold equity?
Thanks. Sounds good. Also what software do u use? And can u buy hands for it like u can for cash games?
I use Poker Tracker 3, and I'm not sure about buying hands.
Im not having a go at your game at all - but you really cant put half your stack in and fold. theres just too many chips in the middle to fold. If you are going to put half your stack in, you have to call. Otherwise it shouldnt be going in in the first place.
My solution would be to fold until you have 8-10 bbs (this is if you are card dead) and shove late (light if need be).
or you can sit tight and hope the table goes mad with all in raises and calls.i once made the money and didn't play a single hand
imo... i can sit out until 75/150 and play a sit and go, so basically that means i dont find being card dead to be a big problem... cause the emphasis on STT's is shove or fold aspect and not about doubling up early on.. ofcourse having a double stack especially at the 75/150 has a huge impact on the way you play but im just as happy to have a 10bb stack, given the chip leaders are on my right...
You shouldn't necessarily be trying to chip up in the early levels. It's (basically) a fold-until-you-have-to-shove game. Being card dead isn't that bad. The only hands I ever play in L1 and L2 are the occasional set mines from LP, AQs+, AK, and the big pairs I choose to play depend on position.
I once folded JJ utg at 10/20 in a $10 stt. Nitty iyo?
yea thats wayyyy too nittyyyy
One half of my bookmark bar is stuffed with your pages. I find your post really interesting and just wanted to thank you for the work that you do.

Re-stealing is definitely an option I look for when I'm getting desperate. I usually look at the 2-3 opponents to my right and see who is stealing/raising too much. But you have to be careful who you shove on...I've seen some of these LAGgy opponents make some horrible calls:Ax, QJ, K9o...
Sometimes I'll find myself in late position/blinds, with 2 or 3 limpers, and I might shove allin with a wide range. In this situation I usually like the limpers to be the loose-passive players, usually with a VPIP>30. I'm kinda hesitant to pull this off when I see a squeezer(VPIP<10)limp in from EP. There's always a chance that someone could be slowplaying a monster at this point, I just think it's much less likely to be the loose-limp-in-every-other-pot fish.
A stop-n-go still works with a fair amount of success. More players know about it now though, so you'll usually get looked up. I usually like to have >a pot sized bet behind when I'm planning a SnG, and I prefer to see a ragged flop or catch a piece of it with some kind of draw.
