I'm trying to play heads up sit&go's, but I'm having trouble gaining momentum. When I played poker full time a few (3 or 4) years ago, I used to have a nice steady ROI and earn a decent income. Now, whenever I try playing, I end up breaking even or even losing. It's really frustrating.

Have the games gotten harder, changed, or have I just gotten worse? Also, does anyone have experience taking a break from poker and then starting up again?

obviously the poker boom is over, people who started either got better or stopped playing.

its very hard to built a bankroll at low limits, many bots around and regulars

Poker boom over?? Profit wise you mean not popularity!!
A bot would be programed on pot odds and win percentage with premium hands.
A human would easy take the bot off a winning hand with bluffing.

I've really never had noticed a BOT in a game, maybe they playing in higher limits or I'm not really picking up they a BOT, maybe why some player never chat when your finally headup with them. I thought they where just rude!!!

Wow, you never saw a bot ingame? seems like you pay little to no attention to anything.

Maybe it also depends on where you play, but u will meet ALOT of bots at the nl10 cash games at pokerstars, ive also seen one in tournaments but that doesnt happen alot, they are much more profitable in cash games, because you also dont have to open tournaments all the time, you just open a table and let the bot do the rest.

And yes, since chris $$maker won the wsop main event, there has been a big pokerboom and since then less and less new players come and play poker, so the result is less fish for us

Chris Moneymaker won in a field size of 829, in 2008 the field size at the WSOP was 6,844.
So what makes you think it less popular apart from your belief?

I find them harder than they were 2-3 years ago...

I can't speak on the HU SNGs, but I think the skill level in general has gone up quite a bit, which has affected ROIs across the board. And as for the 'poker boom', yeah it IS over. Not saying it isn't at its height in all time popularity, but in terms of the exponential growth we experienced after the Moneymaker win...

Here's the field size for the ME of the WSOP since '03:

2576 in '04-307% increase over previous year
5619 in '05-218% " " " "
8773 in '06-156% " " " "
6358 in '07-(27.5)% decrease <---direct results of the UIGEA
6844 in '08-7.6% increase
6494 for this year-another dip of about (5)%

I think we're all hoping that there's gonna be another boom in our future, but I think it's doubtful that it will come close the '03-'06 numbers. The UIGEA has definitely had a crippling effect on the influx of fresh fish. Hopefully with all the new poker/gambling legislation being presented, we'll see the UIGEA amended or even abolished.
