This game is so sick at times!

Title says it all, one day you feel a hero, the following you feel shit....I had a terrible run at 2/4 (and took some shots at 5/10 HU), I don't think I played particularly bad, I actually think my game is improving and I really would like to play 5/10 regularly by the end of 2010, but this week has been a psicological killer! Still up +70k € for 2010, but if I don't run better in the remaning months I won't be able to reach my 100k € goal, or even worse I could loose more money, and that would suck big time!
The problem is, for me as for every other poker player, that when you win xyz amount, you are never as happy as you are sad when you loose the same amount of money. Overall I am taking it better than I would have a few months ago, hopefully this is a sign of player maturity, but I don't want to get use to losing too aften!

Graph attached (2 days work, but most damage was done on the 17th when I lost 4k $ in a day, worst day ever for me).... Crying
Overall I dropped close to 5k $, running about 2k $ below EV.....

After tonight I am going to take a little break from poker for a few days, I start again in a week time, I am still up for the month overall, so I hope to consolidate the winnings!

Good luck all (me included!!!),

sucks to run like that. loved the quote about if you win xyz amount it feels good but feels much worse if you lose the same amount. Agreed. if i'm playing a session of $10 DON's and go positive $20 i'm like, well ok i went positive, happy with that i guess. i lose $20 and i'm fucking pissed off. funny how that is.

Why the sudden move to cash games? Ive read some of your blog and I thought you were mainly an MTT player?

Cash games are incredibly complex and I imagine the field is very tough at the $2/$4 level. Unless you have significant experience in playing cash games (like 100,000 hands+) then it'd probably be best to focus on what you know best (MTTs) or try lower limits (like .50/$1). I could be way off the mark with this but your blog hasnt shown any evidence of cash game experience and they play significantly differently to any type of tournament poker.

Hi Alex,
you are right. I moving towards cash games as I am getting a bit bored of MTT and I think cash games 6-max is the "best" form of poker. I know I am giving up short-term profits by descreasing the amount of mtt I play, but I hope this would make me a better and more complete player in the coming months. So far I only played 50k hands at 2/4 and despite the recent bad run I still show decent profits despite running below EV, but I am also aware that I have big margin of improvement. I play mainly on ipoker.com and the 2/4 level is nothing impressive to be honest unless you end up on a table of only regulars, I just need to keep grinding....I am also spending a considerable amount of time on training sites watching videos for 6-max cash games and find them extremely useful. Obviously the learning curve is always very hard, but I hope it will be easier with the time!
