Day 3 4-tabling

Continued last night with 6 tournaments, 3 90man kos, a $3mtt ko and the two early doubles.

Finished with a 3rd place in one of the 90s and not much else. Puts me up about $250 from my initial $75 at the start of May. I'm very happy with how it is going, I know its early days and I haven't played nearly enough but I think I do have some edge in the 90 mans where generally players seem to hand me their chips (and their bounty) early doors.

This brings me onto a question about the merits of ko tournaments at the $5 level and their effect on ROI. It seems to me from playing in this particular game ($6 90 man turbo deep stack SNG on FTP) that the disadvantages of ko's, ie the smaller cash prizes, are somewhat offset by the apparent impatience of alot of the players to hand you their chips and bounties. Very rarely have I finished these games without atleast 1 ko and any sort of deep run practically guarentee's 3-4 ko's, which at $1 a piece helps to offset losses when you don't cash. The other added effect is that of the poor players being more likely to spew chasing knockouts. When I play MTTs at the same time, it is clear that alot of people are much happier to get it all in there in the KO's. Maybe from a phsycological point of view it is better for me aswell because of those extra few $'s in your account when you don't cash, maybe helps to keep me off tilt, a bad beat on the bubble or NTM tends to have a bigger emotional impact on me than a win, so the fact that I have bust on the bubble but have covered 75% of your buy-in with knockouts helps to soften the blow.

I have not done any of the sums and it might just appear like its worth it when it really isn't but I'd like know other more experienced players opinions. It seems to me like it may be a more complex scenario than it first appears.

Discuss.

I would say Knockout tournaments are probably just a way of decreasing variance slightly maybe? I would rather just have the payouts because of how i play as i can very often go deep and knockout no one. Small ball poker all the way in sit n gos really. Obviously i can go on a tear sometimes but i dont like getting it all in too early with most hands as it is much more beneficial to conserve some chips for later on. I can see their appeal and they tend to run faster but i dont think they are a good thing for my style of play overall.

no need to every try and conserve if you think your play is +EV at all. especially since you get a bit extra if you knock them out.

GL slash, you'll get back up there
