Who's the DON?
Who's the DON?? Not me! I'm down $670 at these $6 Turbos, and has never had a winning week at them. Despite killing the $3s, its bigger brother has really had its revenge and had me whacked! (Trying to keep the mobster theme going)
Gonna take a break from the Turbo SNGs for a week or so, gonna do a few reviews and plug some leaks. Honestly, most of the time when I hit a big downswing its usually because I lose over 50% of the flips, never suck out, get sucked out on a lot, and coolered bvb. But I must be doing something wrong, you cant hit this sick of variance in that many games.
Gonna try grinding some Double or Nothing SNGs this week, see what the hype's all about! Apparently they're good bankroll builders (but then isn't any game, if you play them well??), and have less variance. Its basically a normal SNG but with someone literally cutting it in half with some kind of magic online poker knife. It has all the early game stuff and end game shoving, but no short handed and heads up. I think they can be quite profitable, considering that you are; a)Folding all day like a Phil Laak on High Stakes Poker Season 5 super nit, b)HUD spotting the high VPIP/PRF donks who think its poker and don't understand ICM, and c)30 mins average, which for me who came from Super Turbos is as good as it gets.
One beef that I have with them is that the rake isn't as high. Yep, that's right, its not a typo, ISN'T as high. Why do I want high rake? We'll normally everyone bitches about rake, but for a high volume grinder, the rake = vpps and fpps = VIP rakeback, so its gonna take more games to make more rakeback. But I think its pretty close if your comparing it to Turbo SNGs, because there are [supposedly] less swings, but also less of a top heavy payout structure.
So I was checking out the leaderboards for DONs and this has to be the biggest gap between 1sts and 2nds I've ever seen!

Wow. This guy is putting in the most insane amount of volume, averaging 1500 DONs a day in 2010! Is that even possible? Is it a bot? Well, if he's real, I kinda like it, imagining him 50 tabling $1 DONs for like 8 hours. Sickoooo!

On another note, every poker player's favorite show is back, High Stakes Poker Season 6! I've just watched it and I can say that its definitely still the best poker show out there. Of course one has to ask, "If it aint broke, why fix it?". Kara's Scott's introduction to HSP is certainly nice eye candy, but I'm not convinced that interviewing players who lost 200k is as interesting as AJ Benza's "Newbie" questioning and banta with Gabe Kaplin. Losing AJ Benza, in my opinion, is going to lose the extra viewers that have no idea what's going on.
The Line up is the most sickest super minus ROI cash tables you'll ever see in your life;

+1 for the Phil Laak reference.
I think you may have the longest blog post in history there. The lack of AJ's commentary is a shame, i agree, its kinda sad hearing gabe commentating alone =[
Hilarious/epic opening to the series though - can't wait for more!
