Take a Break or Grind Thru It?
I haven't blogged in a while so I've decided that I will take a lil break from grinding the $16 Turbo STTs and write some shit down! Apparently blogging is good for you, in the book I'm ereading on my iPhone 4 (Snaaap!) called 59 Seconds.
This month I certainly am disappointed with the way things have gone. Started off really badly, and took a break, and returned to what seems to be nothing much of an improvement. I would say tho, that that first week in July my mind was certainly in a bit of a funk, and now I'm fresher, and a bit less jaded about losing showdowns, coz at the end of the day, we're gonna win eventually...
So when you run into a bad patch, you have 2 choices;
1. Escapism - Take a break from playing. Do not say the words "Poker" and "-EV" for the next week and travel as far away from your laptop as possible. Treat yourself and spend yo moneeeyz! (Boy I maxed out my new credit card in no time at all lol)
PRO's - Come back fresh and psychologically ready for battle again!
CON's - No games means no money or rakeback. If you play for a living, how long would you be able to not play for?
2. Attack the Variance! - Some players prefer to play through it. You are a winning player, so by playing more you can out variance the variance! Just gotta be strong minded and keep telling yourself your playing good when the cards don't fall your way.
PRO's - Nothing like a good grind to get your money back up! Plus, even if you break it back to even you can rakeback it up!
CON's - If things don't turn around it becomes a battle of the mind on how much you can take before you snap. Worst case scenario is definitely super tilting your account to busto. I'd think this scenario is more likely with cash game players.
I personally have never managed a "number 2", and with the advice of my coach who was running twice as bad as me, I took some time off. Coming back and having Pokertracker going nuts on me wasn't helpful. And switching to HEM was a pain in the ass too, but I'm glad I have it now. Maybe I had too much time off, but its cool, I will maintain my Plat status, and still got a week to get me outta the red. I just hope things turn around soon, I need my heads up showdowns to balance out....
WSOPnote, congrats to Grinder and Jason Senti on making November 9! Pretty sick that Senti had interviews before on PokerStatic and he's now there! I love watching that show, got some interesting stuff there. Anyways, hope Grinder wins, its time for a pro to take it down... gogogooooooooo!
