June Goals

Tagged:

I wanted to share some of my goals with you guys for June. When I set goals I like to set activity goals for myself. What I mean by this is the number of sng's to play or hands of cash games. This is contrary to what some players do. Some players set result oriented goals like I want to 10k this month. That type of goal is completely dependent on how you run. If you run good you could hit that goal by the 15th of the month, and now what do you take the rest of the month off? If you run bad but work your ass off should you feel disapointed? So the only thing you can control is how much you play. It is also important to break your goals down to a managable daily level. So for the month of June my goal is to play 1500 45man/90man sngs on full tilt.

When you hit your goal it is also important you reward yourself. So I have had my eye on a new Ford Escape Hybrid SUV. Normally, I don't I buy a new car for hitting my goals. But I have been working hard this year and I am going to do it if I meet my goal. I know the money will be there when I play 1500. If I run normally I will pocket $20,000 for the month. If I play 1500 I should also be in strong contention to win full tilts mtt leaderboard for the month.

If you guys did not know I am also married and I have a 3 year old daughter. So this vehicle will work out nice for us. I am also into helping the earth when I can so the hybrid feature is nice for that.

So when I play 25 days out of the month, I need to play 60 sngs per day. When I am 16 tabling them it takes me about 6 hours to play 60 of them. So when I break it down it looks pretty easy.

yes, correct goal, I absolutely agree. I set 2500 games for myself (about 1500 6max turbos and 1000 45mans). gl at the tables Smile

GL bro, I read about this goal setting in the poker mindset good idea for a blog. Hope you get that car.
My goals for June will be to quit when tilting, play only sngs no HU, and watch at least 4instructional videos per week between sng grinders, cardrunners and here.

Ok, I just signed up today here. Had pretty good success at fulltilt, but just switched to absolute poker for a rakeback deal. Timing was off and switched during a losing streak, so not off to the greatest start there. I bought 99 credits to mainly watch your videos because your stats speak like thunder to me. Then I noticed you were in Michigan. I am Clarkston ( Pine Knob ) area. How bout you? And if you get a second. Why would you think that I could win at fulltilt and end up losing at absolute? If you scope me, my fulltilt stats were $200 higher before the losing. QUOTO2 at fulltilt, QUOTO4 at absolute.

Thanks and hope to hear from you.

Dude your not loosing on absolute, your just suffering varience str8 away, you either one needed to take time to adapt to structures on absolute or two was out of you comfort zone on a new site which is probably why u decided to stop playin as soon as things went wrong. But try give it another go and play really low stakes until you get used to the structures n stuff. Can you tell me what absolute is actually like because I was thinking about moving to a new site because I am currently getting a really bad rake back deal on full tilt (20% a month but only if I make $1000) hit me back.

Quoto, first I appreciate you watching my videos. If you haven't played at least 1000 sngs on absolute I think it is just variance. I have played on absolute also and had pretty good success there, so again this leads me to think it is just variance. Absolute also has turbo and super turbos sngs and if you play those your variance will be much higher. Lastly, I live just outside of Grand Rapids on the West side of the state.

After watching the short clips of your videos and reading your blogs, they really fascinate me. I have been trying to build a bankroll and get not get over $100 bucks from starting with $25. There are too many donks that call with anything and I for some reason can never "catch" a card like they do. Any help or tips would be appreciated..thank you.

I have a video coming out in a few days were I play $1,$2,$6 sngs and explain how to beat them and handle the loose passive players (calling stations) at that level. So I recommend you watch that.

Hi Mark... this is Joseph from Italy... I noted we have a similar family situation (a daughter and a new car to buy)!!! Nice to meet you.

Well, I'd like to know what do you think about superturbos and if you are going to post a video about them. Have you some suggestions about strategic modifications respect to regular or turbos?

Thank you Smile

Hi Joseph, I currently do have a video on here of me playing super turbos. PimpinDonks #2 Super Turbo SNG's is the title. I cover how to beat them and strategy differences in the video.

oops... my fault... gonna buy it !!!
thanks... see you

Mark, I've just seen the first part of your video (30 mins)... You played really well!

The strategy is basically the same I have learnt from beanmo and AMT (videos for turbo sngs). Since all of you, great grinders, use it, it's a very good and winning strategy, both for turbo and super-turbo (and regular sngs, I suppose).
I'm using it by myself and I am having good results (my avatar is my real graph).

The only moves I don't approve are your calls with rags in heads up (even if you have won both). Why you made those calls? You were the leader and risked to let your opponent come alive again in the match. Don't you think it was more correct to fold those hands and then pushing the next hands (first-in vigorship)?

Another question I'd like to ask you is this: at hi-stakes players tend to fold when raised, while at low stakes (where I play) there are more calling stations and people tend to be in every pot... what adjustments to your strategy do you suggest?

Thank you so much.

Hey Pimpindonks,

I was wondering what kind of AHK scripts you run for SNGs. I've been searching everywhere for a table opener, and a decent table planner (the one that I'm currently running occassionally closes out tables in the 45 man SNGs, when I get moved to a different table-- have you ever had this problem)?

Anyways, as a fellow grinder of the 45 mans, I want to say that I have a lot of respect for your game, and have learned a lot from you by observing your play. If you ever want to throw around some ideas with regards to these tournaments, let me know.

Joseph, I never claim to always make the right play. I make mistakes everyday playing poker. However, when I call some ones allin heads up, it is because I have a good reason. I don't know what hands your talking about, but I have done quite a bit of work with sng power tools. I have found that when a player is shoving basically any 2 cards I need to be calling with a very wide range of hands.

I agree at the lower stakes there are a lot more calling stations and it can be difficult to play them. That is why I just released a video of me playing at $1,$2,$6 sngs. I layout my strategy for beating these types of players in the video.

Hey laughingstack, I appreciate your compliment. I currently just run fulltilt shortcuts. It does cost money about $30 I think. But it opens sngs for me, prefills my 2.5x raise and brings the table to the front that I just put my mouse over. It does many other things also, but that is what I mainly use it for.

I do have to constantly close the tables I have been moved from too, which sucks. In the past I have found ahk scripts on twoplustwo.com in the forums in the software section. So if you find one that closes tables please let me know also.

If you want to throw around ideas I would be glad to do so. I would like to do it on here though so if anyone has similar questions they can just look on here and get their answer.

Thanks pimpindonks, I'll give shortcuts a try. I haven't found a table closer either, but I'll let you know if I do. Unfortunately, most of the unique AHK scripts are for Stars.

Hi,

I appretiate your videos, it's nice to find out that my thinking on most situations is similar to that of a succesfull pro..! I'm starting out and my stats are good. I cant multitable very much (only 4-6 tables) as I havent configured Holdem Manager.. and I get a little lost if I open more tables. How useful do yo u think HM is and can you find hands for HM to analyse or only the ones your playing?

Thanks! Good luck with your goal!
lefti (HiLoLefti)

Hi lefti, I have not used holdem manager. I use poker tracker 3, the programs do pretty much the same thing though. I can go back and look at any hand I have played since I purchesed PT3. So I find it very useful. I used to keep a spreadsheet for taxes and it was a hassle. Now with PT3 it does it all for me automatically. Also, having stats on players has made me thousands of dollars, so I find it very useful.

Hello Mark,

I'm probably the biggest admirer of your skill and what you have accomplished with it. A fan from eastern Europe, Estonia. I even got a chance to play with you a day of two ago, you took me out of course. No wonder I made a stupid move - my hands were shaking because knowing I'm playing against you.

You can't even imagine how much someone like me dreams of accomplishing at least a fragment of what you have. I was just about to feel good about my game plan and the results I was starting to have, I really felt good about the upcoming summer. Now I've been running so bad that all my plans have faded away. Today canceled my trip to WRC Rally next week, what a shame. I'm lost and can't find my way back to the track.
I truly believe that your videos can help me by light years. And there's is something I want to ask you but honestly, I don't feel comfortable asking it here. Could you please contact me at will56@hot.ee? I'd really really appreciate it!

My best wishes,
Villi (Calitry)

P.S. - If it would be year 1000 B.C right now, I'd probably worship you! Smile

I noticed that you use PokerTracker 3 HUD in your videos. What are the stats in your HUD and would they be different if you played in a cash game? I am just getting started using PT3 and find there are alot of stats to track and use. I would appreciate any help on using PT3.

I use preflop raise, vpip, attempt to steal, 3bet %, cbet %. I use the same stats for all games.

Thank you for your help Mark. Much appreciated.
