Interesting Hand I played today

I have been running extremely well so far in July! I have only been able to play 98 sngs so far but have a sick roi of 49.32%. I know this won't continue for the whole month but it is nice to be on the upside of variance.

I played an interesting hand with another online pro today in a $75 45 man sng. The villian is Stinko_Mikko, who some of you may have heard of. Anyways, I wanted to share this hand with you and hopefully you can learn something from it.

So the blinds are at 20/40 and stinko min raises from early position. Another player calls and I have 88 so I call in late position. The button, SB, BB all call also so there are 6 players to the flop.

The flop comes 8,2,6 with two hearts. SB,BB check and stinko bets 264 into a pot of 480. One player folds and it is on me. Here is were it gets interesting. I have top set and alot of players would call and slow play. However, there are still 3 players to act behind me and I don't want to give them good odds to draw. Also, I know that stinko is not betting into 6 players and raising from early position without an overpair here, so I know exactly what his hand is here. So I could raise small but I think raising small here looks so strong with all the players left to act that he will fold hands like 99-JJ pretty easily.

I elected to shove all in for a couple of reasons. First, I want any draws to pay the max because the pot is getting quite large. Second, since I know stinko has an overpair, when I shove he is going to put me on a draw I estimate 90% of the time and a set 10% so I think he is very likely to call an allin but not a smaller raise.

Everyone folded to stinko and he thought for quite some time and called. He showed 99 and the turn and river bricked off and I took down the nice pot. So to beat other professionals you need to use all the information you have and stay one step ahead of them. I included the results for July for me and the hand history text below if you want to check it out.

very sick roi, Smile

but on the other hand, how do pros like yourself handle downswings and bad runs?

pinkpantherr, if I am on a bad run I just keep playing unless I feel the frustration is affecting my decision making. To get out of a downswing I know I have to just keep grinding and eventually the variance will even out. If I do think I am not playing well I will stop playing and take a break for a day or two.

ty for your advice, I have a lot of respect for you / your game, so its nice to know what a pro does against variance

You are crushing it lately! Nice work, and thanks for the hand review and analysis. Great stuff. Keep it up.

hey mark, do i need to buy tournament updater along with pt3 to automatically transfer my stats?

I am not sure what tournament updater is?

well i was reading something online and it said poker tracker didn't transfer your stats directly to pt3 from full tilt so you needed to buy tournament updater as well. I heard in your video that they automatically transfer everything on full tilt. I was just confused. Have you ever thought about doing a video on cash games?

Poker Tracker 3 handles all the stats you don't need the tournament updater. I feel my strongest game is in sngs and mtts so I am just doing videos on that now. Thank you for the idea though.

Hey Pimpin,

1st off congratulations on your success its definately well deserved your quite a sick grinder. I have been playing more of the 45's and 90's and will be making a move up to the $75 45's soon and was wondering if you would mind entertaining the idea of selling a certain amount of Hand Histories from some wins/deep finishes to me. I would like to take a look at them and see if I could nit pick a bit of your mind through some spots that I may have leaks. Im sorry if this is an inappropriate place to ask but I couldnt find a Private Message feature so I just figured I would do it here. If you need to contact me I am on AIM at Ajeff07 or Ajeff007 on skype.

Thank you Smile

Ajeff007

lol incredible bad play by him

I would even name him stupid multitabler. sry but its truth

as for you: ofcourse you played it perfectly, shove here is the most UNtransparent play (for reg) and also getting most value from other donks

Ajeff007, I have tried to contact you a couple of times on aim and you were offline both times and are not able to recieve messages while offline. If you put an email address on here that I can contact you that would work better.

Yup No problem. Ajeff007@aol.com

Also, Ill be sure when I am out to leave the away message on so whenever you contact me Ill at least get it and can/reply when Im back. Ty sir and good luck, I see your grindin some cash today Smile

hey. i use to play mtts on fulltilt. im looking to play some sngs to decrease my variance. what u recommend like a schedule for me ?
24$ 90ppl and 75$ 45 ppl ?
how about the structure from the 75s 45ppl. im a little confused about the non-ante play. how should i approach it ? thanks alot

Pretty bad call, what did he think you had: A8? Flush draw?

Hi, played with you in a few 45s on Tilt now and you are definitely the man.

Thanks mirokearney, I think he put me on a flush draw.

Hey Mark,

How's your July going so far?
Any future plans for new video material?

Cheers,
Calitry

Hey Calitry, I just wrote a new entry on my blog you can check out.

Cheers!

Pretty weird min-raise by Stinko... seems like you're just inviting everybody and their brother to get in the hand. At that point, aren't you just set-mining? I can't imagine playing for my stack w/ 99 after 6 players saw the flop unless I've got hit my set... maybe a 678 flop.

Preflop I am set mining and will be able to take the pot away once in a while when no one shows strength.
