Living the Dream

Ok so after playing poker for 5 years I guess it’s about time I started up a poker blog! I'll start off with the boring bit first about myself. I’m 23 currently about to go into my second year of study at university of Greenwich studying computer networking. I love squash and golf, also enjoy football, but not the best at it!

I knew how to play draw poker from a young age, but I didn’t learn how to play Texas holdem until I was about 16. Back then I still didn't really have a clue, thinking hands like 3 pair beat two pair lol. But my game has advanced since then, I think! Like 99.9% of poker players I started off making a loss. I originally played online poker on Betfair and Full Tilt poker, both a/c's I made a loss of around $1000. At this point I was still trying to find my game and didn't have a clue about bank roll management.

I moved over to the Pokerstars network early 08. By autumn 08 I had finally found my game and begun the long road to becoming a profitable poker player! This was around the same time I lost my job in bank so I had plenty of time but no funds to play with! So I began playing $1 Double or Nothing SNGS. When I think back now I could never take $1 games seriously, but you have to learn from the bottom to become a profitable player! I played around 1000 games of these and made about $100. Doesn't sound much but a good ROI for the stake played. I then took the next step up to $5 double or nothing SNGS, when I think back, it was a massive step up 5 times what the previous buy in was! This was where a really hit the grind, I played about 5000 of these and made about $1500, which was a healthy addition to my poker balance. I also took shots at the $10 and $20 DONs but wasn't as successful but still made profit. I did enjoy playing the double or nothing SNGs as it was my first step to profiting at poker, but playing them constantly got slightly boring at times and I wanted a new challenge.

About autumn 09 I now had a full time job so I was unable to get in as many hours as I wanted. It was at this point I decided to give 9man turbos a go. I started off with the lowest stakes possible, $6. I started off with a small loss but begun to find profit at these. By the end of the year I had made profit at poker for the first time ever and had found a game I enjoyed.

The start of this year I stepped up the stakes for the 9 mans and began playing the $15 stakes. I started off 6 tabling but I now have now advanced my game and with the help of table ninja (a brilliant piece of software for multi-tablers, I owe 147_star for linking me to this!) I have made substantial profit at these games and also on the sharkscope leaderboard 

The main aim for the rest of the year is to try and achieve supernova on Pokerstars and stick to the game I’m good at. I am a gambler and do have a tendency to play more luck based games such as hyper turbos. If there was a function where I could barr myself from hyper turbos that would be ideal for me! It will just have to take self-discipline and determination, two things very important to poker.
