Diet

Yeah, you've read well: diet!
I have had an idea: since all Sharkscope's stuff (graphs, stats, blogs, videos, etc) has helped me so much in having discipline and becoming a winning (so far) poker player, I want to apply the same tools and the same rules to my weight, trying to get in shape and finally get rid of my big and horrible belly!
I don't know if I'll start tomorrow (my birthday) or on the 1st sept, but I'm strongly motivated to do it because it's really unpleasant, for a 36 years old good poker player, to weight 95 Kg.
Do you agree?
Ok, so I'll soon start a diet and take a Sharkscope-like graph of my weight and it must be equal to my profit-graph... in a decreasing fashion, of course Wink

SharkScope Graph:

It can be hard for people who sit all day in front of their computers. You should strive to do something daily that makes you breathe hard. Wink

You are perfectly right. But, anyway, I eat too much too. So, first of all, I have to reduce the food, lighten my body of about 10 Kg and then start making some sport out there to lose other 10 Kg.
Anyway, I'll keep track of it in a weekly graph.
GL to me Smile

I just turned 36 this week also, and I bought myself a Weider PowerBell for my birthday. Swingin this thing around really gets the heart going and it really is a total body workout. I got the 40lb. bell which is a little expensive($200), but you can pick up the normal, non-adjustable ones, for pretty cheap just to get started.

Never seen such a thing in Italy! Looks really nice! Anyway, I am plenty of body-building tools here: cyclette, tapis-roulant, handlebars with loads, bench, abdominal machine... and I use all them to put dresses down on them when I undress before sleeping Smile Big I have used them for their real purpose less than a hour in 4 years !!!
My problem is the eat-indiscipline and the absence of will. So I will try using a Sharkscope-like approach, focusing on long term goals, graphing the progresses and blogging the results.
Let's see if it works.
Anyway, thanks for the advice. See you.

Staying in shape is my specially. I have a few tips that might help you out.

Your best bet with exercising is to find a sport or activity that you really love doing. Exercise machines get old quick, but if you're doing something you love, you'll be more focused on having fun and getting better then how tired you are.

If you're not interested in many sports, then find a good workout routine that will challenge you aerobically. Here's a few things that come time mind -

  • Jogging, if you can get into it, is one of the fastest ways to cut weight.
  • CrossFit is a workout program that focuses on functional strength. Each day they post a new workout on their site for you to do. Although they usually don't take up much time, you have to give the workouts everything you've got to get through them. CrossFit is very community oriented and lot of people like to share their results after each day.
  • P90x is the only late-night infomercial workout routine that works. I don't use it, but I've seen the dvd's and I know a few people who have had great success with it. The workouts focus on improving overall strength and fitness, and the circuit training style will have you pouring sweat and struggling to finish.

In terms of eating habits, It's better to eat a bunch of small meals rather then a few large ones. This will keep your metabolism moving, and since you'll always have something in your stomach, you'll never have the urge to stuff yourself.

Avoid adding things like butter, dressings, and sauces to your food. Even putting a few tablespoons of olive-oil onto your salad can be the difference between 30 calories and 330 calories. If you don't already, get used to reading labels to learn the calories and nutrition of the foods you're eating.

Also, learn to love water. Many people will start losing weight just from cutting soft-drinks out of their diet. Juices are really high in calories as well. Try drinking water cold, from the fridge. It's much better that way.

I definitely think that charting and logging your results will keep you motivated. I'm looking forward to following your ups and downs Smile

Thank you so much, dbirider, for all these accurate advices. I think I'll start with the alimentary ones: frequent small meals with poor dressing and just water.
I'll let you know the results.
Thank you again.

And dont forget the exercise - exercise is KEY. Will not only help your metabolism and losing weight, but will help your mind be more alert for those long poker sessions you are putting in.

lol so much for discipline look that that last line. that's a degenerate upspike after a long downswing.

Well gl with that. If u play alot of poker it makes it hard to have the time and motivation to do any kind of workout. But if ur serious and motivated im sure u can pull it off.

Yeah, guys... it will be a challenge more difficult than poker's one.

haowang010, if you are referring to my last 15 tourneys' good results, well... you are right... that's why I put LUCK at the top of my key-points list.
Now, within 3 hours, I'm gonna play another bunch of 15 tourneys... I'll let you know how it'll go.
Good Luck to me.

haowang010, you can see the result of the other 15 tourns bunch here Wink

you already look fit to me Giusnun, haha but yeah it's always good to improve yourself in multiple areas of your life and not just poker. Some people don't realize that health and playing great go hand in hand.

i just had a quick question, i know all of pimpindonks vids are good but I was wondering if you had to pick one that was the most helpful or the one that is most insightful. I'm looking to buy one but dont know which to buy first.

jockmygame, it depends on what type of game you prefer, cause he made videos for all of them: choose your stake and your tourney-typology (mtt, sng, regular, turbo, superturbo) and you'll find the right video to start with.

thanks for the quick response giusnun and good luck to you at the tables!

You're welcome, mate.
Good luck to you too.

So... here we go.
I start my diet today.
It will have a first period of losing weight just by eating-discipline and a second period of getting in a good shape by sport (and eating-discipline too).
I'll graph the results in a sharkscope-style.
Good luck to me.
Starting weight: 93.5 kg (206 lb)
1 lb (pound) = ~0.4536 kg

haha it is hard to lose weight while playing poker. too bad there couldn't be a way to run around while playing poker versus sitting.

Once I tried to play while pedalling on the cyclette, but I had no good results Smile

Guys, I'm gonna open a new post for who's interested: Diet update.
Thanks to all of you who helped me with their advices.

Hey Mike, I'd like to ask you one question. Why don't you activate the personal contact form? Smile
