2nd week (semi-pro)

Tagged:

The second week has been worst than the first!
These are the stats:

  • buyin:50€ played:147 ROI:-20.75% income:-1525.07€
  • buyin:30€ played:180 ROI:-14.56% income:-786.04€
  • total * played:327 ROI:-18.13% income:-2311.11€

It's clear that it's not just variance... there has to be something more... much more! Before I lose all, I immediately must change my plan by three ways:

  • reducing multitabling
  • forgetting about FPPs
  • playing much more focused

Ok, let's go... I'll let you know.

Wow, you are not running good at the moment.. Losing quite a bit.. Are you sure you can handle the level?

I am sure, cause I did it before. Infact, my stats at these levels, from April 2009 to today (including, therefore, the last two horrible weeks) are:

  • buyin:50€ played:1890 ROI:+4.49% income:+4240.54€
  • buyin:30€ played:1729 ROI:+4.48% income:+2322.51€
  • total * played:3619 ROI:+4.48% income:+6563.05€

That's why I don't plan to make a level down. I just have to play my A-game again, reducing multitabling (from 16x to 8x) and focusing on the game and the opponents.

Hey Gius,

Oh dear still not going well.

I think this drop in performance is probably down to multitabling. 16 games at a time will really hit your ROI hard.

See this article. N.B. there is a typo - 2 tables should be $3.68 not $3.86.

http://www.sitandgoplanet.com/sitandgo/sng_bankroll/Multitabling_SNGs_Pa...

You can use it to calculate your optimal number of tables. I reckon it's probably around 6-tables for playing 9-seater turbos. 16 tables seems a bit crazy to me to be honest. I think you can only play16 on DoNs or MTTs.

I usually play less than my optimum because I want poker to be fun not a grind plus you get stressed faster and your concentrations goes quicker the more tables you play.

Gonna read the article... but I already dropped from 16x to 8x and just had a (positive) 2 hours session on Full Tilt:

  • buyin:22$+2$ played:25 ROI:+35% income:+212$

I played again on Full Tilt because, after I withdrew all my funds, they offered me a 500$ bonus! Wink
Hoping it's not just a lucky session, the main thing is that I played really focused on each move of every single player, always looking at blinds, position, stacks... I remember just 2 or 3 big mistakes during this session.
Now my goal is to play this way also on Pokerstars.it.
I'll let you know... anyway, thank you so much for all your suggestions... I also played a more conventional style, as you told me to do Wink but that's because I was on Full Tilt... now I have to test it with Italians.
See you soon and thanks again.

I have just played on Pokerstars.it very very focused (8x multitabling):

  • buyin:50€ played:8 ROI:+21.64% income:+86.55€
  • buyin:30€ played:12 ROI:+75.7% income:+272.51€
  • total * played:20 ROI:+47.24% income:+359.06€

No comment !!!

Hey,

I am not sure what your current situation is but if you are playing for a living than I would not decrease the amount of tables you are playing. It is all about getting in volume and if you feel you are running bad and making bad plays than just drop down stakes for a day or two and play through the down swings and get your confidence back up. I play 15 to 20 tables at once on pokerstars and if you play and it's just second nature in what to do in any situation than you should have no problem. You have to make sure your hourly rate stays as it can when you are at the tables. If you don't have a table manager I would suggest one such as "table ninja". It will help you manage your tables better so you can concentrate on making the right moves the whole time.

Thanks, dan08.
A great part of my downswing was due to variance, but another part was due to lack of focus. I used to play 16x to 20x and I played just like a robot... playing like a robot is good at low/mid stakes. On Italians pokerrooms there is a 100€ limit on buy-ins, so at 100€ and 50€ I always find at least 6/7 regulars/pros at each table. In this situation, if you don't want to have a break-even roi, you have to play very focused, adapting to opponents' style and mixing your strategies. That's what I did over 1K sngs, with a 10+% roi. Since I shifted from 8x to 16x (I also bought tableninja) I had a drastical deterioration in roi, cause I couldn't focus so much on all those tables. So, this month I'll try to play 8x at 50€. Next month, I'll try to play 12x-16x at a lower level, as you suggested. Then I'll make a comparison and will choose the best way to play.
I'll let you know.
See you.
