Colusion, Cheaters, and Pokerstars

Below is an email sent to me by pokerstars on the 19th of June

Hello,

PokerStars has become aware of players who were working together in our Sit & Go tournaments to the detriment of other players. You were involved in at least one tournament with these players and as a result you may have been adversely affected.

The players' accounts were closed and their funds frozen pending a thorough investigation, which is now complete. Fortunately the problem was identified quickly and they had only played in a few tournaments before the accounts were closed.

In a case such as this it is our policy to confiscate the colluders' winnings or balances and to distribute them to the players affected by their actions in as fair a way as possible. To confirm your credit, log onto your PokerStars account, go to the 'Cashier' screen and click the 'History' button. Your share will be shown "ADMIN CREDIT", followed by the amount of the credit.

I regret that we will be unable to answer questions as to how your specific credit amount was calculated. Likewise, we are not at liberty to identify the specific games or players in question. Suffice to say that they have been barred from the site and you will not encounter them again.

The integrity of the games at PokerStars is of paramount importance to us and we will not abide cheating or collusion in our games. We work hard to police our games and prevent such instances. In the rare cases where collusion has actually occurred, we make sure that any players affected are compensated appropriately.

Thank you for your continued play here on PokerStars. Please do not hesitate to let us know any time we can be of help.

Best regards,

Mathew

MY thoughts on this ...

Big ups to poker stars as it feels like they are on top of things .. but i still feel unsatisfied, all i got was a $7.30 refund and no real answers to my questions!! WHO ARE THESE MUTHA FFFFFF and how do we catch you !

i sent a reply to poker stars about this and im waiting for a reply as we speak.. so lets just see what happens..

this is the 3rd time i've gotten this email and a small refund. I got back 20 bucks or so this time.

omg ! wow... a third time!??? any idea on how they distribute the money ? and what games do you mainly play ?

dons, 21.80 and 54's, i'm sure thats where the most cheating occurs. i think they have just given me 1 buy in each time. not sure how they give it out.

yeah well its pretty rude.. either way .... and i wish i can just someone run a script in my hand histories to show patterns amongst these cheaters...

i wrote something about the DOn collusion. we are still waiting for refunds on that one (in the hundreds of thousands, if not a million or so).

stars is good at finding cheaters but not good enough. i'm sure now after the DON collusion thing they are going to be looking harder into finding this stuff on their own.

btw i couldn't even begin to tell you the number of admin credits i've received in all the years i've played on stars. just be cautious when you play. if you see something fishy, look at the two players, ask yourself if they are from the same place, sharkscope 1 then use the head to head feature to see if they play together a lot, if they make more money when playing together, etc.

oh man i never realised... .. i feel like such a donk ... !! but about the Head to head stat... its only for subscribers right ? and man .. its gonna be hard for me to check them out i play a good number of tables at once..sighh... i wish HEM would offer a script that would highlight patterns in opponenets play....

How do you use the Head to Head feature? I don't see it and I am a subscriber.

you should ask the admin people... this is like a personal blog post so dont know if you gonna find anyone who can really help you... but after saying that.. i think you find H2H function under the options button, in there you will find many other Statistical features..

was this only happening in the DON???

Well i play 9 mans so.. i guess not..

the biggest thing yea, but cheating happens in a lot of games, on a small level, but it was huge in the DON's

just hoping stars has found a way to catch cheaters much faster.

I just feel there must be a way players can help each other find cheaters?? Just like the ub incident... shouldnt be thar hard.. maybe someone can create a forum or website to help find these ppl

take a look at daleroxxu's blog he goes into more detail about it. Supposedly a ring of chinese coluders made a shit load from DONs

where is this persons blog ?

i'm pretty sure i already said this.

if you really want to know about it read this

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/28/internet-poker/chinese-don-collusio...

btw, the list of 49 names there may not be all of them, and some of those names may not be cheaters. it was just a list asked to jane to see who she knew or whatever.

Sweet! They gave me $73 back.

what u only got $73 back!! i got $7.30 back WTF!!! i guess i souldnt complain since im sure if i was seriously effected it would be much more than $73 worth....

so yea... i feeeel a grinder like u should def get more pinko... maybe thats why u have being running bad though ? cause these cheats keep playing with you ?

el wayneo just type in daleroxxu's blog in google, its one of the more recent entries.
he gives good examples of how each player at the tables equity can be affected by these players colluding.

colluding probably happens in all sngs, but the set up for DONs makes it an easy target for colluders.

yeah i just read his blog... and quite an interesting read... his example was pretty sick... like you can see the blatent theft from other players using ICM...

on a side note... obviously its much easier to cheat in DON's but how does one go about cheating in a normal STT... cause unlike DON's.. its just a flat pay out... but with normal STTs.. i feel like that they arent as easy to cheat... i mean at the end of the day is it really profitable to cheat like that ? cause when 2 cheaters are involved, they both play they pretty much both have to cash to make some decent profit... and if one doesnt cash the other has to come 1st to make decent $$...

so yeah... in comparision to DON... there is a "higher" chance of cashing so in theory an easier way of getting paid.. less the variance.. i suppose...

its much harder to cheat in stts because in stts it is obvious when you are dumping a better hand, not making playing against certain players and trying to help a certain player. its harder in DON's because you can fold almost any hand and have it be close to a good play.
