Looking for suggestions to help my game.

Hello, Fellow Shark Scopers Im looking for some constructive criticisim. Ive been playing for around 5-6 years. I concentrate on no limit hold em sitngos and mtt's. If you look at my graph you can see I will win big money, and then slowley loose it back, sometimes fast, and then I will win big again. I used to just donk it all back no I cash out, this has helped me to keep my profits and I've found that if I have to keep putting money into my account It helps me focus better on winning. I have noticed by taking a critical look at my stats that after all of my big cashes I play big levels and lose, and go on tilt playing high levels trying to recoup my losses. Im working hard on fixing this, I want to play for a living as my only source of income, however before I can do this I need a bigger bankroll than usual so that I can support my wife and daughter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

first off what types of sitngo's are you playing it looks like 180 mans?

first off what types of sitngo's are you playing it looks like 180 mans?

Im starting to concentrate on the 75$ 45man and 24$ 45man as well as the 90 mans. I prefer the mtt games on full tilt the 55$ and 100$ turbo tourny they have every night, and also the 55 rebuy tourny they have.

If I were you I would pick a specialty and concentrate on that one type of game such as 180 mans. If you choose to play these I would also suggest to play 45 mans in order to smooth out the high variance of 180 mans. If you study 180s and learn to play them perfect than that would be your best way to earn the highest ROI in sitngo choices. Most 180 pros can make a modest living playing them. I play mostly small stakes but have been fairly successful playing part-part time. Let me know what you think and I will send more info.

I can relate to the part part time situation, it makes it hard to get in the number of games i would like therefor i think i can play too much at times when playing bad, thinking that I need to recoop losses today do to the fact that I have to go to work the next day. How long do the 180s usually take, I like the fact that the 45s are fairly quick the only problem is that at the hours i play they usually dont fill very fast, so im limited at the amount of them i can get in.

Well if you play full time than I would suggest getting a pokerstars account if you dont have one there you will find no lack of games filling up. How many tables do you play at once? I would also suggest going down in stakes in order to get in more games. I would suggest 12dollar 180 mans and that is where most pros play but they also mix in the 30dollar ones and even stakes under 12. It is key to get in a huge volume of 180 mans and 45 mans which fill up fast as well. A good goal would be able to try and play 100 a day 5days a week and thats if you can multi table 15 or so. Oh and the 180 man turbos which you should play if you are going full time take about 90 mins from start to finish on average. I would also suggest downloading Table Ninja in order to help manage multiple tables and it will also auto register you for tables so you can keep 15 tables or whatever you want open at all times.

It's all comes down to variance and ROI. You need to know what the variance is and your ROI is for a particular tournament type to predict the range limits on your bankroll. YOur combination of high variance tournaments and low ROI is gonna cause wild fluctuations. The only way to stop them is to switch tournament type.

My suggestion is switch to smaller SNGs and a lower buy in. You ROI is too low for 45 mans at that level. The interaction between low ROI and high variance will mean that you will have to play about 20,000 of these tournaments to have a 95% chance of even being in profit.

Try something like the $10+1 18-seaters (assuming such a thing exists on tilt). I wouldn't bother playing on anything that your ROI isn't in double figure unless you can play 1000s of tournies a month like pharreal.

So try to find smaller tournies with a lower buy in (preferably not turbos as these will reduce your ROI as well) where you can establish a decent double digit ROI. The swings in your bankroll will then be much less extreme and you will have a much more consistent upward trend.

For more info on the different levels of variance and their effects on your bankroll see this entry on my blog. It's for stars but Tilt have lots of similar tournies.

For info on your to calculate confidence intervals on your ROI see this entry. I think it is very important that people see these figures for there chosen type of tourney. If the 95% confidence intervals are much bigger than your ROI/average profit then you will have wild fluctuations. I haven't calculated yours but I suspect you 95% CI will be way bigger than your average profit.
