Welcome to my first forray into Blogging. This will hopefully be a tale of consistent wins and copious amounts of profit. But that is about as likely as pocket 2's holding up against AK all-in pre-flop.

My start to the year has been good but tainted. My attempts to give up booze for the month ended 7 days into the month in a drunken blaze of hedonistic glory. This of course sits square with my Sharkscope graph plateauing. An awful lapse in discipline has seen 120 games without profit.

My target for the month was originally $3000 profit. With my girlfriend away for the month this was ambitious but realistic. Due to my fall off the wagon this now looks a tough target. I will however fight on manfully after a run of luck that would make an Icelandic bank depositer look fortunate.

Due to an awful run of fortune mixed in with some poor play I will be playing a small amount today. Then I will be back tomorrow with vengeance and hopefully return purring like a cat that has just caught the cream.

welcome assissin, not a bad looking graph so far. Gl on making your goal of 3k this month.

Welcome sir. Not a bad graph, not bad indeed, just stay away from the booze tho or stay away from the tables and you'll be closer to that 3k this month, sadly the two don't mix ='(.

Thanks pharreal87, I'll be doing my best despite a shocking few days!

They certainly don't mix xMarvel, if only they did! I'm not going to have a drink until Saturday as I've got a big Uni reunion planned, but until then I hope I will be able to make 600 dollars before I lash on Saturday night Smile

That's the way to do it bro, grind hard and party harder and have fun at the reunion they're always interesting

Nice graph, interesting plan... although setting monetary goals can be really, really unhealthy. Youve realistically got no control over your short term earnings, so a crude monetary end-of-month target can be a pretty psychologically damaging concept. At the end of the day, unless you play a huuuuge sample you can't possibly expect to have full control over the profit that you make.

Its best to set goals that you can have total control over - that might, in your case, be staying away from the booze :P. If you want a target that's going to spur you on to play more often, then set a target that's related to just that; volume (e.g. playing 500 SNGs by the end of the month).

If you set a monetary goal, it sure feels great if you break it. But there's a realistic chance that you'll make less than you hoped for, or even that you'll barely break even or post a loss for the month. Your fault or not, variance will have caused you to miss your target, potentially fuelling frustration and tilt.

Firstly, thank you for your reply Alex. I wholeheartedly agree that variance can be a killer in the short term in this game. I went through a spell last weekend where I had so many beats my laptop almost found itself in the garden.

However, I disagree with you re target setting. Yes, it is certainly a good thing to set targets with the amount of games you play. However, you surely must have an expected ROI when you play? And if you have an expected ROI then if you set a target with the number of games you play, surely the two go hand-in-hand?

My target of 3000 bucks with the low limits I play is extremely optimistic. But this is the point. As long as you don't put your staking plan at risk when on tilt there can't be any harm in setting monetary targets?

In my case I have been driven on to play more and make more money, which can only be a positive thing! Good luck Smile
